Choose the Right Quilting Wadding in Five Easy Steps

Waddings for quilting come in a dizzying range of weights and sizes but you can narrow down your selections with a few simple choices.

  1. Do your want your quilt to be plump or flat? Many of us have been brought up thinking that a 6oz polyester wadding is out only choice but it’s not! Consider using a natural fibre like cotton wadding or bamboo. Both have a great feel to them and make your finished quilt look terrific.

  2. How big is your quilt? If it’s a bed spread, you won’t want a 90cm wide wadding that you have to piece together. Instead look at the extra wide waddings, all 90” wide. You will love the bamboo/cotton blend for superior washability.

  3. Making something that will be used in the kitchen, an insulated wadding will give you a safer finish, especially for overn gloves and tea cosies.

  4. Would you like your project to be warm and toasty? Try wool wadding. A natural product it is ideal for hand quilting with a rustic twist

  5. Making something to hang on the wall? Consider an iron on wadding like a Vilene H640. It sticks to the back of your patchworking giving you an effortless finish.
